Portfolio

I have had the privilege of working with some amazing clients over the last 10 years! Here are some samples of the marketing, copywriting, and content development work I’ve created for them.

Hyhr Inc.

I was first introduced to the leadership team at Hyhr by referral from a friend. At the time I was completing work for another client Hyhr was just beginning their first round of VC raise and I had the chance to learn about their mission and vision. I was inspired by their plan for social equity and became further involved by joining their team. I had the opportunity to help craft their pitch deck, consult on strategy and partnership acquisition, and even help build their E-commerce infrastructure. I am now the current Director of Digital Marketing for the organization and head up the creative department with a full team.

E-Commerce Platforms

From approximately July of 2021 through March of 2022 I had the opportunity to help stand up 2 E-commerce platforms for Hyhr. One platform focused solely as a recreational cannabis online marketplace and the other as a national Hemp CBD online marketplace. I generated the copy, content, and helped shape strategy for both platforms. I currently program direct both platforms in terms of customer acquisition and driving sales through promotions and omni-channel marketing campaigns.

What is Full-Spectrum CBD?

Trending across the globe with incredible velocity, CBD products have become very popular. This article will help to explain some of the core distinctions between CBD products and how to know what to look for.

CBD & Pain Management for Athletes

Being an athlete is about perseverance and overcoming struggle. But one of the largest struggles for any athlete or active person, whether amateur or professional, is dealing with pain. Playing sports makes us all susceptible to muscle soreness, inflammation, and aches—but there’s something you can do to make it easier. Most people who play sports tend to turn to over-the-counter meds or even painkillers. But many athletes and active people are searching for a cleaner and more natural method for relief. Enter Cannabidiol (CBD). CBD is the non-psychoactive component of hemp, the new and rising trend among professional and amateur athletes alike.

How to Choose the Right CBD Product

The CBD industry has grown so much in the last couple of years that there are numerous products for people to choose from for their health and wellness. But with so many options, it can be overwhelming to figure out how to choose the right product for your needs. Each one of us is unique and is trying to solve specific needs. There isn’t a one-size-fits-all solution to CBD wellness.

What is CBD? Why is it Important?

CBD, or cannabidiol, is a powerful compound that’s found in the leaves and flowers of Cannabis Sativa. This plant – which includes both hemp and marijuana – has a rich history as medicine going as far back as the pre-neolithic period (about 14,000 years!) More recently, it has stormed the cultural stage, re-taking its rightful place in the pharmacopeia of herbal remedies.

How to Choose the Right Cannabis Product

Each one of us is unique and are trying to solve specific needs. There isn’t a one-size-fits all solution to cannabis wellness. But it is important to choose a high quality product that has a proven record for efficacy. Hopefully this article can help you determine what cannabis product to get.

5 Myths About Cannabis Debunked

The United States has a long and problematic history with the cannabis plant. As far back as the colonial era, American production of hemp was not only encouraged by the government, but was prominently grown by several of the founding fathers (Benjamin Franklin, Thomas Jefferson, James Madison, and George Washington to name a few).

6 Reasons to Use Cannabis Topicals for Workout Recovery

So you’ve just maxed out those squats or finished a forty-minute intensive on the treadmill and you are sore, sweaty, and tired. Now what? Beyond pounding some water and hitting the showers there’s another thing you can do: use a cannabis topical! Having a solid recovery routine (or even day-to-day) where you focus on relaxing, letting your body rest and recover, and supplementing your needs is vital to optimal health and wellness.

Why You Should Pair Cannabis Oil With Your Yoga Practice

A cannabis tincture is a great product to add to your yoga routine. For those of you who enjoy a  restorative flow or gentle yoga class, tinctures can enhance your experience on the mat. Cannabis oil can also be great if you use it before a faster pace vinyasa flow class. The primary benefit is for those, like me, whose mind likes to wander during class.

UI/UX Copy & Content

During my tenure as Digital Marketing Director I developed several landing pages  to help create user acquisition. Here are just a few examples.

Product Display Pages

With any E-Commerce platforms it is vital to research and develop product display pages that are not only friendly to consumers but also optimized to rank well on search engines. For GoHyhr, there are several regulations and compliance reviews that go into PDP's. This is especially the case because Hemp CBD products are incredibly regulated on the national level. These product display pages were crafted to be SEO optimized and crafted in such a way that we could use this content in Google PPC campaigns.

Papa & Barkley

From February 2019 until March 2021 I worked as a lead copywriter and web developer for the very popular cannabis wellness brand Papa & Barkley. During that time I had the opportunity to embed myself into the marketing department and handle all of the copy and content needs for the brand. Most notably I was able to increase sight traffic from 12K to 40K unique visits per month over my tenure with the company. The content I created for the corporate blog required SEO research, content development, media asset creation, and writing. I was able to bring over 13 million verifiable impressions due to the posts I created. I also increased organic traffic to the three Ecommerce sites by approximately 1.5 million unique visits over 2 years. Among this collection of work you will find UI/UX landing pages I designed and wrote copy for product launches, product display pages that served as the purchase point for online customers, and marketing collateral that was not only used as advertising but for customer education, product catalogs, branding, and 3 E-Books that served as product specifications, product information, cannabis education, and science.

Curated SEO Blog Posts

When I started at Papa & Barkley, they had approximately 8 knowledge base articles. When I came aboard I used my expertise in SEO and content development to create a curated corporate blog. In total I wrote over 150 posts that served to educate customers about their products, as well as health and wellness surrounding cannabis and CBD. Many of these posts were written in tandem with the amazing Laine Hammer, my copywriting partner in the marketing department. Here are some of the choice posts we wrote together as well as some that I wrote before she joined the company!

Cannabis Entourage Effect

If you’re new to cannabis, you may not know about THC, CBD, and terpenes, but they’re an integral part to the cannabis plant that all novice and expert consumers should know about. Even if you’re just entering the cannabis world, it’s likely you’ve heard about various ratios. But the real question is: why do so many cannabis enthusiasts care about ratios? Answer: different cannabinoids (THC, CBD, THCa, etc.) work in tandem when consumed—a process known as the entourage effect.

What is Hash?

While many cannabis enthusiasts have heard of “hash”, do we all really know what it is? To understand what hash is, we need to remember that the Cannabis plant has both a physical structure – the leaves, the stalk, the roots – and the actual essence of the plant itself – the trichomes – which are comprised of aromatic terpenes and cannabinoids.

Our Whole Plant Infusion Process

Through a Whole Plant Infusion process that starts with the plants grown by local farmers that are used in our lipid infusion process that captures the plant’s natural phytonutrients, terpenes, and full spectrum of cannabinoids. Although our process is all natural and solventless, it is anything but simple.

What is Rosin?

What is cannabis rosin? Rosin is a golden, sap-like concentrated oil made by pressing the resinous trichome heads from the flowers of cannabis plants. While you may not have heard of it, rosin is an oil you didn’t know your skin needed. If you’ve never heard of the golden sap-like substance that is front and center in our skincare suite, here’s a 101 on where it comes from, how we make it, the difference between rosin and resin, and how it helps keep your skin glowing all year long.

How to Read (and Understand) a Cannabis Batch Label

Cannabis Extraction & Solvents

Some forms of cannabis extraction utilize solvents, which are chemicals that are used to break down the flower and extract its essential oils, Cannabinoids, Terpenes, and other compounds. These compounds are often used in making concentrates like hash, oil, shatter, and wax. Common solvents used in cannabis extraction are ethanol and CO2.

Why Do Terpenes Matter?

To put it simply, terpenes are the aromatic oils that give your favorite cannabis varieties distinctive flavors like citrus, berry, mint, and pine. These oils, secreted in the flower’s sticky resin glands, also appear in many other herbs, fruits, and plants. They play a significant role in the therapeutic and medicinal use of cannabis strains by creating subtle differences in effects across various types.

What Are Terpenes?

Have you ever wondered how your favorite cannabis strains get their wonderful, diverse aromas and flavors? Your favorite indica, sativa, or hybrid strain smells so good because of organic compounds called terpenes! We’re going to break down what terpenes are, some of the pleasant aromas you can find in various strains, and why natural terpene profiles help you experience all the benefits of the cannabis plant.

How to Treat Tennis Injuries With CBD & THC

Throughout high school and college I loved to play tennis. I had a local park near my house that had overhead lights so that you could stay on the court well into the evening. After school, I would walk to the courts of Kittridge Park and play for hours. After several hours and numerous matches, my knees, wrists, back, and feet would begin to ache from the exertion.

Sports Recovery With Physical Therapy & CBD

I remember when I was a young man how important it was for me to perform as an athlete. I played on a football team as a defensive linemen. I was 6’1” and weighed a whopping 240 lbs.— I was a natural fit on the team. During the season, about 4 games in, I received a nasty broken ankle. At the time I didn’t have access to legally consume CBD. But for most professional and amateur athletes, CBD is now a viable option to help with recovery from a sports injury.

CBD for Physical Therapy & Pain Management

I am no stranger to physical therapy. During my twenties I sustained a back injury that led to a brief hospitalization. As a result, I’ve lived with chronic lower back for the last ten years and have tried every type of treatment you can think of to keep the pain in check and function normally. But after ten years I can tell you that two things worked more than the pain-killers and the prospect of spinal surgery: physical therapy and CBD.

How to Manage Back Pain as an Athlete

After college I joined my local gym to keep myself healthy and build muscle mass. Yet one fateful day during a lifting and cardio class I injured my back while doing box jumps. It was halfway through the class and as I was landing during a strenuous set, I landed off balance with a distinct pop followed by immediate pain shooting through my lower spine. An emergency room visit, x-ray, and a pain killer later, my doctor told me that I had potentially slipped one of the disks in my vertebrae.

How to Treat Chronic Pain Naturally

I’m going to be completely straight with you, my back hurts every day. If I don’t stretch it out or use something to help curb the pain then I can’t function at work, take walks, play sports, or generally enjoy my life. If you do a google image search with the phrase ‘chronic pain’ the typical results are usually images featuring people doubled over with one hand pushing against an area of the body with looks of pain on faces. This may have a visceral effect on some, but it leaves out the human aspect of chronic pain— the emotional burden. Living with chronic pain puts a strain on daily life, and I am no exception.

How CBD Can Improve Your Golf Game

Golf is a game that requires upper and lower body strength to play consistently, but the repetitive nature of the game can lower performance and make it harder to get through all 18 holes. Enter CBD, or cannabidiol, one of the active ingredients in Hemp and cannabis. CBD is gaining steam as a viable method for athletes to help recover after performing and as a means to combat aches and pains associated with their respective sports.

3 ways CBD Can Benefit Your Physical Therapy Routine

A physical therapist can help to identify factors that prevent people from being active while finding ways to overcome physical obstacles. When combined with CBD, physical therapy can be individualized to each person’s needs and care level to help with recovery, pain relief, and reduction of inflammation. Here are three ways to add CBD to your physical therapy routine.

CBD for Arthritis Pain

Arthritis is an everyday occurance for my mother. She experiences pain in her hands, her wrists, and especially in her knees. For most of her life, and for most of mine, she has always had to be a strong woman. But over the years her condition has made her everyday life more difficult; simple tasks like making her dinner, taking a walk, or standing have become too arduous. That is, until she found the all-natural method of using CBD for pain relief to help her through her day.

The Healing Power of THC & CBD

I’ll be the first to admit it: I am a cannabis user and advocate of safe access for all people (over the age of 21). Cannabis is an amazing plant! There is tremendous anecdotal, as well as scientifically backed, evidence of the plant’s healing potential. The real power of cannabis comes from cannabinoids, and the most commonly known are THC & CBD.

CBD for Seniors

Osteoarthritis runs heavily in my family. My mother deals with pain in her hands, knees, and lower back every day. My grandmother spends most of her day lying down or seated because her knees are swollen to the point, she can barely stand for more than five minutes. Both feel the physical and emotional strain of day to day life because of their conditions. But it goes beyond the pain on most days. My mother and grandmother are proud women.

It’s safe to say that chocolate is one of the more beloved sweet treats. You can find it in your favorite cakes, cookies, pastries, and confections, and more simply, in bar form. I am a huge fan of self care. I mean it. Every night before I go to sleep I practice a self care routine. I pull out my trusted soaking bin, fill it with hot water and soak my feet for thirty minutes. It may not sound like much but it makes a world of difference in my emotional state before I nod off for the night. I am also a huge fan of cannabis, so naturally I incorporate it into my regimen every evening. Trichomes are the fruit of the cannabis flower – tiny, crystal-like hairs on the cannabis plant and flowers. Trichomes produce some amazing aromas and vital healing properties because that’s where the plant’s cannabinoids and terpenes are concentrated. If you’ve looked at a cannabis flower from afar you’ve probably noticed that faint blanket of white dust that is covering the buds—those are the trichomes!

THC Tincture Dosage Guide & Chart For Beginners

If you are trying cannabis for the first time, you may have heard that it’s important to find your optimal dose or right ratio. The most effective way to do so is through a method called titration. Titration is the practice of adjusting your dose in low increments over a period of time to obtain the maximum benefit without adverse effects.

Why CBD with Yoga is the Best Idea Ever

Yoga isn’t the only practice that can help us cope with our daily lives. While many people are turning to CBD as a viable medicine to treat medical ailments, there are many who are receiving value from incorporating cannabidiol as a tool to help fight stress and anxiety. The best part? There’s actual medical evidence of how CBD, when paired with Yoga, can help with stress and improve emotional well-being.

How to Find the Right CBD to THC Ratio

Everyone is different so finding the right ratio is unique to your needs. High THC ratio with little or no CBD can be intoxicating and provide relief from discomfort. Low to no THC and high CBD can provide relief from normal inflammation with little to no psychoactivity.

Fortunately, we have found our secret to sleep success: CBD oil!

UI/UX Copy & Content

These are just some of the landing pages that I helped develop during my time at Papa & Barkley. I was present for numerous product launches and was able to help craft everything from product display pages to UI/UX content. The content from these landers accounting for millions in online sales, brand awareness, and organic SERPS.

Marketing Collateral

In addition to crafting the copy that went into these pieces of marketing collateral I had the opportunity to create hundreds more. Many of these pieces were tied to broader marketing activations or omni-channel campaigns.

E-Books & Print

During my time at Papa & Barkley I had the opportunity to collaborate with the marketing team to create two long form content pieces in the form of an educational cannabis compendium and CBD compendium. I was the principal writer on the cannabis compendium and was one of two writers on the cbd compendium. Both compendiums are available in print & digital.

Care By Design

I had the opportunity to work for one of the leading cannabis and CBD brands in California under the umbrella of CannaCraft. At Care By Design I had the opportunity to craft numerous UI/UX landing pages, updates to their homepage, wrote the copy for all of their product display pages, and even helped launch their newest line entitled Effects.

UI/UX Copy & Content

Working in coordination with members of the Care By Design leadership team I was able to update the homepage copy and internal pages for their site. I also had the opportunity to launch their newest product line, where I crafted the copy and designed the UI/UX strategy and content for the landing page.

Product Display Page Copy & Content

Not many people know but product display pages, like other product content in the cannabis industry is highly regulated. As a result, every piece of content is reviewed by compliance and regulatory legal counsel before being pushed to production pages. In the case of Care By Design, this review process was already established so I gained further experience producing PDPs in coordination with legal. Visit their shop and click on any individual product to view the copy I crafted. Fun fact: they have 48 products- I was writing product copy for days!

E-Book & Print

Just like my time at Papa & Barkley I had the opportunity to coordinate with the CMO as well as a cannabis PhD scientist to create a long-form cannabis compendium to support sales, brand growth, and educate people about cannabis and CBD as well as Care By Design.
